USFWS APPROVES BOSS COPPER

USFWS Approved: A Win Bigger Than Boss

06.30.26

In recent months, BOSS faced an unexpected challenge when a U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service memo created confusion around the legality of our non-toxic CuProX™ and Corrosion-Inhibited Copper shotshells for migratory bird hunting. While the memo threatened to undo months of work, we remained committed to finding a solution. After extensive collaboration with the USFWS, Department of the Interior, and a bipartisan group of Congressional leaders, we received official written confirmation that CuProX™ and Corrosion-Inhibited Copper shotshells are approved for migratory bird hunting. We're incredibly grateful to the elected officials, agency leadership, and dedicated public servants who worked diligently to resolve the issue. Their willingness to engage, communicate, and focus on the facts resulted in a win for BOSS, for hunters, for conservation, and for the future of American-made innovation. As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, this outcome is a reminder that when people work together with a common purpose, meaningful progress is possible. Now it's time to move forward. CuProX™ is 100% legal for waterfowl hunting, and we're excited to continue building the future of non-toxic ammunition with 100% American-mined and American-manufactured copper.

The Copper Revolution: We didn't prove it. You did.

How a community of hunters turned skepticism into conviction—and made copper the new standard in the blind.

05.07.26

When Boss made the switch to copper shot, the industry doubted it could compete with traditional high-density loads. But instead of trying to win arguments online, Boss let hunters decide for themselves in the field. What followed was one of the fastest product adoption stories in company history. From matching the legendary Warchief’s launch volume to converting skeptical “Box Guys” into loyal “Case Guys,” hunters proved copper’s performance through clean kills, knockdown power, and real-world results. Now, with the launch of CuProX™, Boss is pushing copper even further—building on a movement the community created from the marsh up.

The Steel Standard is Outdated

Why modern ballistic data challenges decades-old assumptions about copper, bismuth, and steel shot.

04.29.26

This article challenges the outdated “steel standard” used to evaluate shotgun shot materials, arguing it no longer fairly represents modern options like copper and bismuth. It explains how steel was originally accepted through compensatory performance adjustments and how that same framework is now inconsistently applied. The piece presents copper shot as a next-generation material that offers improved consistency, energy retention, and effective range when evaluated as a full ballistic system rather than by density alone.

State of Boss 2026

State of Boss Shotshells 2026

02.23.26

The time has come again for my annual address -  The State of Boss. Historically the SOB’s as we call them have been a mix of looking back, being honest about where we are, and trying to give you a sense of where things are going next, and more often than not they included some level of bad news along the way. This year is different. Not because everything suddenly became easy, but because what started as one of the more destabilizing moments in our history forced us into the biggest technological shift we’ve made since Boss started — and one that fundamentally changes how we approach mid-density (Bismuth, Copper) non-toxic performance.
