Boss Shotshells Announces Independent Validation of MkIII Tester
At the request of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, Boss Shotshells has completed independent third-party evaluation of its MkIII Shotshell Tester™, conducted by UL Solutions (Project PN15511).
Across 1,840 tests, the MkIII delivered 100% accuracy in identifying shotshell materials—including steel, tungsten, lead, bismuth, and copper—using magnetic and conductivity-based screening.
This marks a major step forward in field verification of non-toxic shot, replacing guesswork with a fast, repeatable, physics-based method.
The report has been provided to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as part of ongoing discussions around modernizing compliance and field detection standards, namely CIC Copper non-toxic shot.
Bottom line: For the first time since the 1991 lead shot ban for migratory waterfowl, there is an independently validated field deployable tool capable of verifying all approved non-toxic shot compositions in the field—instantly and non-destructively.
